The club held its first gala fundraising dinner last night (31st May) at the Penridge Suite, New Southgate and it was a great success, with a healthy attendance and a signifiant amount of funds raised for the club.
The guest speaker was former Bristol Rovers, Tottenham Hotspur and England defender Gary Mabbutt MBE who, as Spurs' ambassador, very kindly delayed his flight arrangements for Madrid to speak to the audience of dignitaries, sponsors, and supporters and field questions about his career and his views on football and related topics.
The main auction saw some lively bidding, and the club are very grateful for all bidders' generosity. The number one item was a Tottenham shirt signed by the current Champions League Final squad, and after a tense finale to the bidding process was eventually won by our own Dave Hicks!
As a community club running a number of teams, including youth, ladies and disability teams, the evening was also arranged as an additional way of spreading the word about Enfield Town FC and its aims as an inclusive club for all and a football and social centre for the community, with a range of teams playing at the highest sustainable levels possible. Directors, members and other volunteers will continue to look for ways to build on all the community work the club does, and seek to raise its profile as much as possible.
Special thanks go to former Enfield Mayor and current Town Director Christine Hamilton (pictured at one of the tables) who, with a number of other helpers, invested a significant amount of time and effort into setting up the event and ensuring that it all ran smoothly.
