The new look U18's got off to a good start on Wednesday night and certainly looked the part once again. Naming just four players from last seasons side there was lots of new faces. Under the same management of John Meehan and assistant coach Mustafa Ismail the faces may be different but the brand of football remains the same. Quality and pace in all areas with attractive passing football will see them have another successful season I'm sure.
They began the game in control and played good football throughout the first half creating plenty of chances. Always looking like the better side the young Towners keeper Joseph Gunning didn't have a save to make. But despite all their chances and possession they didn't break the deadlock until the 40th minute when substitute Adnan Jaamac cut inside from the right wing to find Junior Mubiayi who cooley found the bottom corner from just outside the box. HT 1-0
Second half was much like the first with the young Towners in full control but missing chances and making Hertfords keeper look like he was in for a man of the match award. Then after 55 minutes the resilient Hertford hit us in the break and won a penalty following a clumsy challenge. Penalty converted 1-1. This didn't deter the lads as they probed away trying to find a second then in the 70th minute a quality piece of control from a cross in from the right hand side Adnan Jaamac chests the ball then hits a fantastic volley that caught us all by surprise 2-1. Again the lads continued to pile on the pressure to find another goal but Hertford held out and in the last 5 minutes came back into the game with some real pressure down the other end but the lads stayed solid and the game finished 2-1.
