Town progress in FA Cup with emphatic win
Enfield Town 5 Hanwell Town 0 - match report by Aaron Patel
Town booked their place in the Emirates FA Cup 3rd Qualifying Round, following an empathic 5-0 win over Hanwell Town in last night's replay, after their 0-0 draw in West London on Saturday.
The opening ten minutes saw fast exchanges between both sides. For Town, Drew Roberts had his early effort saved by Hanwell goalkeeper Xavi Comas. As for Hanwell - they were not pulling any punches, Charlie Mitchell saw two efforts go frustratingly wide for the visitors.
The first real effort on goal came from Town just after nine minutes, striker Ryan Blake latched onto a neat through-ball, only to put his shot wide of the post. The home side enjoyed the majority of possession, as they essentially dominated the opening fifteen minutes.
Just after twenty minutes Mario Noto was presented with free-kick, in a dangerous position. However Noto could only find the stand with a disappointing effort. Minutes later from a corner Town hit the post. Amongst chaos inside the box, the ball was backheeled against the post by Mickey Parcell, as Hanwell lived dangerously.
While Hanwell were sitting deep for the best part of the opening twenty-five minutes, they did have a few sniffs of goal. Twice the visitors hit Town on the break, only to see both counter attacks go unrewarded. The warning signs were there for Town.
In the 32nd minute Town again came agonisingly close to opening the scoring. A free-kick floated in by Sam Youngs was headed just wide by Darren Purse. Five minutes later Glen Yala almost put Hanwell ahead, his shot saved at the near-post by Town keeper Joe Wright. Then finally after great persistence from Town, they finally made the breakthrough. Moments before half-time Drew Roberts tucked away a half-volley, following a long-ball which he caught sweetly, to make it 1-0 to Town.

The second-half started off in suitable fashion for Town, as they were awarded a penalty less than three minutes after the restart following a fould by Georges Ehui on Drew Roberts. Skipper Darren Purse stepped-up and dispatched the spot-kick, to put Town 2-0 up.
The first change of the night came from Hanwell Town, Tom Hunt replaced Peter Dean for the visitors. Despite the two goal deficit, Hanwell did not look ready to give up their cup dream. In the 57th minute controversy ensued. From a corner it appeared as if Hanwell had the ball over the Town goalline after an almighty scramble inside the box. However the officials did not deem that the whole ball had crossed the line.
A minute before the hour mark, Hanwell made their second substitution; Harvey Killeen was replaced by David Sangola. Less than six minutes later they made their third and final change; Callum Wright was replaced by Lewis Ochoa. As the game progressed into its latter stages, Town were in-search of a killer-blow in the form of a third goal. For a spell Town had the visitors with their backs against the wall, but Hanwell stood firm as they continued to seek a way back into the tie.
With the tie into the final fifteen minutes, Town continued to press. Jack Higgs played in Drew Roberts but the forward could not add to his tally for the competition. On the 75th minute Town made their first change of the night; Jack Higgs coming off and replaced by Ryan Blackman, followed by another change minutes later; Aaron Greene being replaced by Montell Moore.
As Town began to play with more freedom, Mickey Parcell, after a neat exchange down the right-hand side, was flagged for offside with ten minutes left to play. Four minutes from time, Town made their final substitution of the night; goalscorer Drew Roberts was withdrawn for Ben Ward-Cochrane.
Three minutes from time, Town finally scored the third and seemingly decisive goal. Substitute Montell Moore on the stretch from a low-cross finding the back of the net. Town 3-0 up and in firm control. But Town were not done there, into the 90th minute Ryan Blake was finally rewarded after his tireless efforts all night, with a simple tap-in inside the box, following good work from Ryan Blackman. Then three minutes later substitute Ryan Blackman scored Town's fifth, which prompted the full-time whistle.
So Town avenge last season's FA Cup disappointment against the same opponents, and now host Phoenix Sports in the 3rd Qualifying Round on Saturday 30th September at the QEII Stadium.
