DAVISON HAT-TRICK FIRES TOWN INTO VELOCITY SEMI-FINALS
Enfield Town 1 Burgess Hill Town 0 - match report by Aaron Patel
Town overcame a youthful Burgess Hill outfit on Tuesday which showed six starting line-up changes from their league game at the weekend. A combination of injury and players cup-tied necessitated a number of positional changes for Town, including Aaron Greene operating as a wing-back with Sam Hatton and Remi Sutton in the centre of the back line.
Straight from kick-off Jack Malleret's header from a corner was cleared off the home line, but from that point on traffic was in the opposite direction for the majority of the first half.
In the 11th minute Town opened the scoring. Ryan Blackman’s low ball across the box caused issues for the Hill backline and Josh Davison was there to tap the ball home after keeper Mitchell Bromage had been unable to hold onto the ball. Town continued to press and, just before the 20 minute mark, Billy Bricknell went close after he had cut in from the left on to his right foot.
After 28 minutes, Andre McCollin's shot way over from a promising position while, at the opposite end, Davison's low driven effort from just outside the box was comfortably held by Bromage. Ten minutes before the break, Bilal Sayoud went close for Town following a good run into the box beating two defenders, but his shot was blasted over. Youngs had an effort saved and then Bricknell shot over. Joe Wright did well to clutch an on-target effort from Malleret.
Moments before the interval, Bricknell's layoff was hit by Sayoud wide of the target, and then Davison had two opportunities; the first was saved by the feet of Bromage and he could not connect properly with his follow-up header which drifted wide.
Half-time: Enfield Town 1 Burgess Hill Town 0
After the restart, Hill’s Malleret had a long-range effort which sailed way over the bar and, moments later Youngs' tame effort was held by Bromage. In the 50th minute Remi Sutton’s header from a corner landed on top of the Hill goal net, and, shortly afterwards, Davison’s header bounced wide following a great cross from the right by Matt Johnson.
Around the hour, Bricknell’s effort from inside the box was saved by the feet of Bromage, who diverted the ball for a corner.
In the 62nd minute Town doubled their lead; a fine cross from Mickey Parcelled on the right was tapped in by Davison.
Town were then awarded a penalty in the 65th minute after Bricknell had been brought down, and he stepped up himself to send the keeper the wrong way from the spot for his 15th goal of the season.
Davison then completed his hat trick for Town in the 77th minute with a simple tap-in after great work from Aaron Greene down the left and the striker duly picked up the man-of-the-match award after the game.
Substitute Alexander Samizadeh scored a late consolation goal for the visitors with a curling effort from outside the box leaving Town still seeking their first clean sheet since October. Town now face the winners of tonight’s (Wednesday 16th) Merstham v Bishop’s Stortford match in the semi-finals.
