Enfield Town 0 Corinthhian Casuals 2

Match report by Aaron Patel
Town hosted Causals on a bitterly cold January afternoon as they looked to creep back into the play-off places; but those hopes took a body blow as the visitors scored two goals late on.
Sam Youngs struck an effort from 20 yards out with barely a minute on the clock, but it was tipped over superbly by skipper Dan Bracken in the Casuals goal. The visitors’ first chance came in the 7th minute; a free-kick swung in by Jordan Clarke was headed goalwards by Jack Strange, and his header took a deflection and went out for a corner.
Josh Davison went close for Town - the young striker picked up the ball inside the box, turned his man but dragged his left-footed effort wide in the 19th minute. Town were having more sight of goal but Casuals enjoyed some good spells of possession.
On the half hour, another effort from Youngs from just outside the box was punched away by Bracken as the Town midfielder continued to have an influential first 45 minutes. Ten minutes before half-time a Town free-kick from 25 yards out was delivered by Ryan Blackman and Dan Rumens rose highest to connect, but he nodded just wide of the post.
Clarke's free-kick in 37th minute from just outside the box was comfortably held by Joe Wright in the Town goal as Casuals continued to show signs of life although the game remained goalless. A minute before the break, Hamilton Antonio hit the post for Casuals with a well struck effort from just outside the box, then in the ensuring scramble Casuals had a penalty claim waved away by referee Jeffrey Aldous.

Moments into the second-half Clarke’s cross caused problems for the hosts but, luckily for Town, Warren Mfula couldn’t connect. Just beyond the hour mark, Greene's cross from the right found the head of Rumens, but he could only direct his effort into the hands of Bracken.
The second period was even, but the match remained somewhat uninspiring. A quick break from Town had Greene making ground up on the left but his low ball in across the edge of the six yard box went untouched. From a Town corner the ball was headed clear and fell to Greene, but his well-hit effort was comfortably held by Bracken once again in the 67th minute. Chances began to come more frequently for Town, but they continued to be frustrated with no end product.
After Billy Bricknell had fired wide, Mickey Parcell's cross found Greene at the back post who knocked it back for Youngs to hit the woodwork in the 77th minute.
Then, in an unusual turn of events, referee Aldous went off injured and was replaced with only five minutes or so to play, although the game was held up for considerably longer. As the dying embers of the game resumed, a Casuals corner was swung in from the left and was tucked away by Gabriel Odunaike. In reply, a long ball downfield from Wright was headed down by Bricknell and struck by Josh Davison but again grabbed by Bracken without undue alarm. And then, rubbing salt into Town’s wounds, Casuals wrapped the game up with seconds remaining; a flowing move being finished off by Mfula to condemn Town to 9th place in the table, and with a much improved performance required at Dorking Wanderers on Tuesday night.
