Spirited Fight Back Earns Town A Point
In a picturesque setting next to Box Hill in the Surrey downs, the Town got their deserved rewards with a spirited fight back after going 2-0 down early in the second half.
Match Report by John Dolan.
This being the 3rd game in 5 days and with the Billericay game ahead in another 48 hours, Andy Leese rested a few players and gave a few squad players a chance in the starting 11.
Dorking were the quickest off the mark and had majority of early possession with Daniel Walker showing early signs of being a danger. On 3 mins he got to a ball wide on the right before Adam Martin and got in a shot that Joe Wright did well to block at his near post.
After just 5 minutes Town fell behind when he slipped past Adam Martin and fired in a hard low cross that Luke Moore only had to tap in to score at the far post. Ryan Blake responded with a couple of good runs down the right however both crosses managed to elude any of the Towners on-rushing forwards.
As the first half wore on the Town had more of the possession and a Header from Adam Martin was easily caught by Slavonic Huk in goal for Dorking. This was followed by a lob just over the bar from 30 yards by Liam Hope as he latched on to a long ball from defence. Town continued to probe with a strong run down the middle from Matt Johnson which found Ryan Blake wide on the right, but again (and like Harrow on Monday), the cross could not find a Town attacker in the box and was cleared. Liam Hope had a header tipped over by Huk, and then a volley was blocked in a crowded Dorking penalty area.
On 39 minutes Huk run out to just beat Ryan Blake to another through ball and another danger was cleared by the home side. Dorking’s danger man Walker had a tame shot from 20 yards go wide as the first half ended with Towners on top and Mario Noto firing a free kick over the bar.
HT: Dorking Wanderers 1-0 Enfield Town
No changes to either side as the second half started slowly with Dorking trying to play a tight possession game and gain control.
On 49 minutes good work by Brad Wadkins enabled Liam Hope to get in a dangerous cross which Huk did well to catch at the feet of a Town attacker. Then a long ball over the top down the Towners left found Walker again this time looking offside, his cross got to the far post where Lewis Putnam fired in from the angle.Despite protests the ref stood his ground and the game resumed at 2-0.
Another town attack saw another cross this time from Jon Kyriacou that was blocked for a corner that was over-hit, Matt Mitchell-King did well to twist and turn and beat his defender to get in another cross which was caught by GHuk.
On 65 mins Jack Hockney was replaced by Dernell Wynter.
Brad Wadkins did well to knock down a high ball to Liam Hope whose shot was saved by keeper Huk.
Samir Bihmoutine found room at the edge of the box but was crudely fouled, but the subsequent free kick hit the wall and was cleared. Although 2-0 down at this stage, the feeling was a Town goal was overdue as they had most possession and Dorking were happy to hold what they had. On 73 mins Simon Thomas replaced Brad Wadkins and Junior Mubiayi replaced Matt Johnson.
At last on 75 minutes the Towners got a break when a cross from wide right from Dernell Wynter was fumbled by Huk and fell into the net.
Town were applying more pressure buoyed by pulling one goal back. On 83 minutes, a run and cross from Samir Bihmoutine was tipped round the post for another corner that was again cleared. Another run and cross by Ryan Blake was flicked on goal by Bihmoutine but was too near Huk who gratefully held it safely. It was not looking like the Towners day when on 89 minutes, a cross shot by Samir Bihmoutine hit the far post, however Junior Mubiayi was first to the rebound and hit a fine low shot from 12 yards that crossed the line despite the best efforts of the packed Dorking defence. A deserved equaliser from a well struck shot from Junior.
The game finished 2-2 and reward for perseverance from the Town who now move on to play Billericay on Saturday.
