Town fightback secures back-to-back home wins
Enfield Town 3 Dorking Wanderers 2; match report by Aaron Patel
Town fought back from behind to secure three points as they beat Dorking Wanderers 3-2 at the QEII Stadium on Saturday. Darren Purse and Adam Martin were missing with flu; Mark Kirby and Aaron Greene came back into the side following injury.
The opening few minutes were end-to-end. James McShane saw an effort for Dorking saved by Joe Wright and Mario Noto’s lob from distance just cleared the bar, an audacious attempt which nearly caught out Slavomir Huk in the visitors’ goal.
In the 16th minute, Town broke the deadlock. Sam Youngs cut inside from the left, beat a couple of defenders, and his powerful effort from twenty yards sailed into the top corner past Huk. But within just four minutes, Dorking were level. Tom Tolfrey was played through by McShane on the left, and he tucked home a low effort past Wright for the equaliser.
As half time approached, it was anyone’s game, but Dorking could have gone ahead when Giuseppe Sole smacked the post inside the box. But, the reprieve was short-lived as, just two minutes before the break, Dorking went 2-1 up. Sole tapped home fom a well worked throw-in routine, and the sides turned round with Dorking looking good value for their lead.
Half-time: Enfield Town 1 Dorking Wanderers 2
Town started the second-half strongly, with efforts from Aaron Greene and John Kyriacou galvanising Town in the search for an equalizer. Nevertheless the visitors continued to come forward with pace at every opportunity. On the 54th minute Sole’s pass across goal went untouched - any contact would have been enough to give Dorking a third and possibly winning goal – before Ryan Blake replaced John Kyriacou to pep up the attack.
After a strong spell from the hosts, Blake was on hand in the 66th minute to tap home Mickey Parcell’s low cross from close range. Ten minutes later, Town were back in front. Ryan Blackman netted a curling effort from the edge of the box, beating Huk to give Town the lead with less than fifteen minutes to play. After a couple of scares from set pieces towards the end, sub Steve Wales almost lobbed Huk at the death but the keeper recovered just in time.
