Enfield Town 0 Tonbridge Angels 1
Town’s unbeaten home league record finally came to an end last night, following a 0-1 defeat against Tonbridge Angels. Match report by Aaron Patel
From the first whistle, the Angels displayed their ability on the break. With six minutes played, Sam Bantick charged down the right, pulling back a pass into the penalty area, but the loose ball was cleared by the Town defence. Two minutes later, Joe Turner cut in from the left and saw his right-footed effort comfortably held by Town keeper Joe Wright.
In the 14th minute, Tonbridge created the first half’s best effort on goal; Bantick crossing the ball in from the right, which was headed over by striker Alex Akrofi. Moments later, Aaron Greene burst into the box but saw his effort go over the bar, as Town momentarily caught the visitors napping. Just a minute later, Tonbridge came back with another effort; Turner whipping in a high cross from the left, which was headed towards goal by Akrofi but Wright was on hand to make a fine save. In the 23rd minute, Town created a neat sequence of football which presented them with a good chance, skipper Mark Kirby exchanged a one-two with Liam Hope, but Kirby’s subsequent effort sailed over the bar.
Following a decent spell for Town, during which they looked as though they were growing into the game, Tonbridge once again began to enjoy a greater share of possession. In the 36th minute Bantick was played in behind the Town back-line, but his one-on-one effort was saved by Wright.

Three minutes after the restart, Turner saw another effort from the edge of the box held by Wright. A couple of minutes later, Sam Youngs managed to turn and shoot on the edge of the box, but his shot went over.
After some persistence from the visitors, they finally broke the deadlock. On 54 minutes, Alex Akrofi picked up the ball down the left, cut inside onto his right-foot and drilled a shot past Wright for what proved to be the winner.
Just beyond the hour mark, Greene saw a free-kick on the edge of the box turned behind for a corner by Jonathan Henly. From the resulting corner, Youngs played the ball across the six-yard box, but it evaded everyone and was eventually cleared.
With less than fifteen minutes to play the visitors continued to see the better of possession and Town seemingly struggling for ideas. With two minutes to play, the ball fell to Greene on the edge of the box and he saw his volley graze the crossbar. That was as good as it got and Town suffered their first home league defeat in the most disappointing fashion.
