Town run riot in the A10 derby
Town picked up their third pre-season victory, with an empathic 8-0 win over Cheshunt FC yesterday evening (Tuesday).
It took Town just four minutes to open the scoring. Drew Roberts converted a tap-in to give Town a 1-0 lead, as they dominated the opening ten minutes. Ralston Gabriel and Sam Youngs also saw their respective efforts go just wide.
Just after ten minutes Jonny Ashman carved out Cheshunt's first opportunity of the game, his shot sailed just wide of the post. Five minutes later Town almost doubled their lead, Simon Thomas had a close-range effort saved by Cheshunt goalkeeper Steve Norris.
Then with twenty minutes on the clock Cheshunt came close to levelling the score. Once again Ashman almost scoring, this time his effort hit the post. Moments later Ralston Gabriel saw his one on one effort go wide for Town.
In the twenty-eighth minute Town doubled their lead. Ralston Gabriel sprung the offside trap and slotted home confidentially, to put Town 2-0 up just before the half-hour mark.
Seven minutes before half-time Drew Roberts scored his second of the game, to grab Town's third goal. A great ball from Mickey Parcell found Roberts, who made no mistake, and Town headed into the break three up.
Moments after the restart Cheshunt's Kyle Roberts tried an audacious attempt at goal to no avail. Similarly seconds later, Drew Roberts almost caught Steve Norris out with a speculative effort.
Mario Noto hit Town's fourth of the evening with a brilliant drive from 20 yards out. After great sequence of passing play from Town, Noto netted a wonderful effort to make it 4-0 Town in the fifty-fourth minute.
Four minutes later Sam Youngs gave Noto a run for his money with yet another fantastic goal. A long-range effort hit low and hard beat Steve Norris in the Cheshunt goal, to put Town 5-0 up. On the hour mark two minutes later, Simon Thomas scored a tap-in for Town to make it 6-0.
With sixty-five minutes played Cheshunt were finally finding their rhythm in the game, Ashman pulling some strings for a deflated Cheshunt side. And they did have the ball in the net, however the goal was chalked off for offside by the linesman.
With less than twenty minutes to play John Kyriacou made it 7-0, with a brilliant Beckhamesque effort from well over 40 yards. Following Town's eighth goal, Cheshunt saw a free-kick smack against the post.
Finally Town wrapped their battering of Cheshunt on the eighty-second minute, Jack Higgs followed in a rebound to make it 8-0.
