Amersham Town 0 Enfield Town 6
Good work out to start the 2017/18 pre-season programme
The Andy Leese and Darren Purse era kicked off in leafy Buckinghamshire against Spartan South Midlands League Division Two opponents Amersham Town on Saturday.
On a good surface, in cooler conditions than of late, Town’s embryonic squad contained a number of trialists who were looking to impress the management team. One of these opened the scoring after three minutes, side-footing in a pass from the right by Ryan Blake. Four minutes later, Mickey Parcell finished off a fine move, slotting home with a crisp, low right foot shot.
Joe Wright in the visitors’ goal made one of his very few saves on the day when he kept out an effort from Amersham’s no.7 on 12 minutes, but Town were passing the ball well and keeping possession while building a stream of attacks, another of which ended with the home ‘keeper pushing a shot wide for a corner.
The lively Blake made it three in the 39th minute after the Amersham keeper had spilled the ball and another trialist made it four three minutes before the break with a fine shot cutting in from the left.
There were a large number of Town substitutions from the 36th minute onwards as Andy Leese experimented with various permutations, and two further goals were added to the visitors’ tally; in the 50th minute a trialist notched number five and the sixth goal was scored by sub Harley Haag ten minutes from time. Another sub Drew Roberts also hit the post with a powerful long range effort. Town keeper Wright kept out the home no.10 as the game drew to its conclusion.
Assistant Manager Darren Purse said after the match “it was good to get some game time as players get to know each other better, but Tuesday’s home game against Chelmsford City will provide a much sterner test”.
