Enfield Town 1 Witham Town 0

Under 23's win again
Town maintained top spot in the League, with a hard fought victory over mid table Witham. Town's squad was stretched to the limit with a number of players on first team duty on the Tuesday and therefore rested, though Ben Jones and Brad Empson both played again until early in the 2nd half.
Witham started confidently and knocked the ball around well, as Town struggled to find any rhythm, but slowly played their way into the game and then started to dominate, with Empson prominent down the right and Jamie Doyle working hard up front on his own. Luke Wright nearly gave Town the lead with a chip from the edge of the area which beat the keeper but not the bar and shortly after, Doyle rattled the bar from close range when it seemed easier to score. Witham also hit the bar with a long range effort, but the first half finished goalless.
Witham changed their shape to try and push Town back, but were always in a game of few real clear cut chances. The visitors nearly scored from a corner when a scramble in the 6 yard box saw young keeper Teddy Reynolds make a triple save to keep his side in the game. Town made changes which further disrupted their flow. Kyle Lynch was clear through and fouled outside the area, though only a free kick and a booked were awarded in their best chance of the half.
The clock had ticked into injury time when the breakthrough finally came. From a scramble in the area, Gench poked the ball into the net to the relief of the home team. There was still time for Lynch to break clear and miss a one on one with the keeper, but the whistle sounded for another 3 points.
The u 23's face a massive, top of the table game against Haringey Borough at home on Wednesday November 14th and all support would be welcome.
