Enfield Town to host summer tournament

The club are pleased to announce that the Queen Elizabeth II Stadium has been chosen as one of the venues for the 2018 Confederation of Independent Football Associations (CONIFA) World Football Cup.

CONIFA is an international football federation for teams unaffiliated with FIFA, and an umbrella association for states, minorities, stateless peoples and regions. The CONIFA World Cup is an international football tournament, usually held every two years. The 2018 tournament being hosted by the Barawa Football Association, with all games scheduled to be held in London.

Town submitted a winning bid in stiff competition from a number of other clubs in the Greater London area. Many thanks are due to Town Director Ram Ismail for leading on the successful bid.

Town Chairman Paul Reed said “I am delighted that the Queen Elizabeth II Stadium has been chosen to host some CONIFA World Cup matches this year. This will be an exciting venture for the club, and is another step in the growth of Enfield Town FC as we continue to develop as an inclusive club for all and a football and social centre for the community".

CONIFA General Secretary Sascha Düerkop said “The strong ties between the local community and the football club create the perfect environment for us and our members and we are all very excited to feel the passion and love for the game that the Enfield Town FC community have put into their club over the years."
