The sun was shining on the Supporters Direct Cup as a large contingent of Beveren supporters made the long trek to North London for a very special occasion and they made the most of it despite the disappointing result for them.
Enfield Town, playing at the higher level of football than their Belgian opponents were comfortable throughout, but they had to battle the tremendous noise and support of the Eskabee fans who remained in high spirits throughout. 3-1 up at halftime, two early second half goals killed off any hopes of a Beveren comeback, but that did not spoil the day as the good atmosphere continued throughout. Town hit Beveren with two goals in the final minutes to finish 8-2 winners, but the two clubs had put on a lively show with some good football played with tremendous spirit.
As the Cup was presented, it was difficult to tell who had won, with both sets of supporters playing their part in the aftermatch partying. And as the two sets of supporters finally went their separate ways many friendships had been formed between the supporters of two clubs with so much in common. A mismatch on the pitch perhaps, but a total success for both clubs off the pitch and a day Supporters Direct and the Supporters Trust movement can be proud of.
