COMMUNITY SPORTS DEVELOPMENT
The community sports development arm of our Club recently completed a series of coaching sessions specifically for children with Motor Co-Ordination difficulties.
We were approached last year by Fiona Kingsley of the NHS to ask if we could provide this coaching, which was delivered by our former first team coach Shaun Reece. The sessions were delivered on the artificial grass pitch outside the stadium and will support the football development plan to which the London Borough of Enfield signed up in order to secure the funding for that pitch.
We have been very fortunate in securing sponsorship for this programme from Metaswitch Ltd, the Enfield based communications software company.
We limited the number of children who could attend to just ten, in order to give them the necessary individual attention. The programme was a success in that all of the children improved their ability to play football and gained in confidence. One of those who attended is now training with our girls Under 10 squad.
Fiona Kingsley, who is the Children’s Occupational Therapy Clinical Lead at the Barnet, Enfield & Haringey Mental Health Trust said: “ Working with Enfield Town Football Club has been a real pleasure. They have been really willing and open to work with us in creating an multi-agency approach to meeting the needs of this specific group of children. The staff and the facilities have been great, we couldn’t have asked for more. We really appreciate them opening their club up to this new venture and look forward to many years of working alongside them. The children have really gained from this opportunity.”
Gill Paschalis, for our sponsors, said “Metaswitch is delighted to have supported this fantastic initiative. I visited the Club and saw for myself how much the children enjoyed themselves and benefitted from taking part. It was also lovely to meet their families and all those involved in the Club and to hear the many success stories.”
