ANDY LEESE AND DARREN PURSE
Enfield Town have today appointed management duo Andy Leese and Darren Purse to succeed Brad Quinton and Andy Porter in the first team management hot seats.
Andy was most recently with Chesham United, where he had been in charge for ten years. During that time, he led the Generals to promotion to the Southern League Premier Division in 2010, and to a number of subsequent play-off encounters, the most recent of those being in 2014 when Chesham lost out to St Albans City 1-3 in the final.
He has also famously led the side to the second round of the FA Cup in 2015-16 when wins against Enfield Town and Bristol Rovers were followed by a defeat at Bradford City. The first round was reached again last season, with a narrow 1-2 loss at Peterborough United.
His will be assisted by Darren Purse, who will also be registered as a player. Darren has had a long and distinguished career in the professional game, with his most recent club as a player being Bishops Stortford. An England U21 international, he also represented a number of Premier and Football League clubs including Leyton Orient, Oxford United, Birmingham City, West Bromwich Albion, Cardiff City and Sheffield Wednesday. He had spells with Andy Leese at Chesham in 2014-15 and in 2016-17.
Chairman Paul Reed said “we were extremely impressed with the number of applications we had, and it was quite difficult to whittle down to a manageable number of interviews, such was the calibre of those we shortlisted. Andy and Darren were extremely clear about their immediate and longer term plans for the club and were outstanding candidates. I very much look forward to working with them both".
Andy Leese said "I am thrilled to be joining such an ambitious club, and can't wait to get started. There are very few good jobs available at this level, and this is definitely one of them. Apart from being supporter-owned, I know the club is very community orientated and I am very pleased to be part of that. Brad Quinton has clearly done a great job during his time at the club and Darren and I will be looking to pick up the reins quickly and make progress. We will relish the challenge of meeting the expectations of supporters."
Darren Purse said "I am delighted to be working with Andy again. I think we complement each other very well and have an extensive knowledge of the game between us. Joining Enfield Town is very exciting and we will be aiming to keep the club's momentum going from day one".
Welcome to the club, guys!
