Mario Noto and Steve Wales agree to new roles...

ANDY ADDS TO HIS MANAGEMENT TEAM

Enfield Town manager Andy Leese has announced the appointments of Mario Noto as assistant manager and Steve Wales as first team coach following the departures of Darren Purse and Shaun Reece.

Andy explains “with Darren Purse moving on and, more recently, Shaun Reece informing me of his decision to join another club it has been a challenge to recruit the right replacements. Shaun is off to try his hand at management lower down in the pyramid. I have worked closely with him for seven years, and his departure is a disappointment for me personally, but it’s an opportunity he wanted to take as he builds his own career. He will still be able to offer his support in certain areas which is great news. I would like to wish Shaun well and thank him for his unconditional support over the years.

“I have asked Mario Noto to be my new assistant, and he has gladly accepted. I approached Mario soon after Darren left. He has ambitions to coach and manage, having had some experience at Boreham Wood. We have the same philosophy about the game and share the same views on how we want things done. Mario will curtail his playing days as we look to build a successful squad. We have been working together since last week and his professionalism in all he does is very evident.

“I have also asked Steve Wales to join the management team as first team coach. Steve had been struggling with injury last season and is currently unsure whether or not he will continue playing. I have known Steve for most of my management career and I know he is keen to get into coaching and management. I am delighted he wants to work with us. He is a keen student of the game, as is Mario, and will bring some different skills to the team. I am excited by the new structure, which will continue to include Ed Thompson (goalkeeping coach) and Zara Pinkerton (sports therapist).

“It’s certainly been a busy couple of weeks since the season ended. We are looking to strengthen the playing squad and have made some really good progress so far. The recently announced 2018/19 Bostik League Premier Division structure has thrown up a really interesting challenge for us. I have been excited by the events of the past fortnight, which have given me some new energy after a tough couple of months. Rest assured we will be working hard over the summer to get a squad in place to meet our expectations and those of the whole club.”

Upon his appointment, Mario said “Andy’s offer to be his new number two was too good an opportunity to turn down. Having done my badges, it’s great to get a foothold back into that side of the game. I have known Andy for some time, this is a perfect opportunity for me and I look forward to working with him as assistant manager.”

Steve added “I have also known Andy for a number of years and of course know Mario and the rest of the management team well. I’m delighted to be taking on the role of first team coach within the team, and am looking forward to preparing for what I am confident will be a successful new season.”

The club would like to wish Mario and Steve every success in their new roles and also wish Shaun Reece all the very best for the future.
